Dear Members of the University Community,
It is my great pleasure to announce that our friends Bill and Joanne Conway pledged an additional $20 million in scholarship support for our nursing students. We are beyond grateful for these scholarships, which will benefit 160 Catholic University nursing students over the next five years.
Bill is a University Trustee and the co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group. Since 2013, the Conways and their Bedford Falls Fund have given $80 million in support of future Catholic University nurses, making Bill and Joanne the largest benefactors in University history.
In recognition of their generosity, we awarded Bill and Joanne honorary degrees from the University in 2017. Two years later we named the Conway School of Nursing in their honor.
The Conways’ most recent gift adds to $20 million they gave previously to form the Conway Scholars Program, which has benefitted 82 Catholic University nursing students.
The Conways also gave two gifts of $20 million each that will allow Catholic University to construct a new nursing and science building on Michigan Avenue. The new facility is expected to open in 2024, and it will double the size of the current nursing education facilities.
This generous gift from the Conways was made as part of Light the Way: The Campaign for Catholic University, the University’s first comprehensive campaign.
Our Conway School of Nursing has long been a source of great pride to the University. We are so grateful to Bill and Joanne for all they have done to contribute to its success. I am confident that the Conway School will become the gold standard for nursing education in this country.
Sincerely,
John Garvey
President
