Matthew C. Dolan begins serving the University today as its general counsel. Matt joins the University after nearly 10 years working for the firm of Freeh Sporkin & Sullivan and Freeh Group International Solutions. His prior experience included working on the Penn State report of 2012, external investigator for the NCAA and BP Oil Spill, along with matters of security and safety, ethics, compliance, and operations integrity.
Matt’s service at the Freeh Group followed his 24-year career as an officer in the United States Navy. His assignments included service as a Navy SEAL, trial attorney, and the legal advisor to the Sixth Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy. He concluded his career as senior legal advisor for the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Matt has a B.B.A. in finance from the University of Notre Dame, is a cum laude graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, and earned a LL.M. in international and comparative law -- with highest honors -- from The George Washington University Law School. He and his wife Karin are the proud parents of three grown children, Brendan, Molly, and Annie.
“I am very humbled and excited to join The Catholic University of America to provide legal support to the talented team responsible for accomplishing the Catholic University mission,” Dolan says.
Matt succeeds Nancy O’Connor, who has retired after serving the University with dedication and energy for nearly four years. We are pleased that Nancy will take on certain projects for the University from time to time.
